Anurag Thakur, the BCCI president, confirmed the development on Friday in Dharamsala, where the board is conducting its first annual cricket conclave, and that exact dates and venues will be determined later.
MINI IPL 2016 can also be called IPL Overseas as it will be held outside India. It was also announced by BCCI President that mini ipl will be a limited week tournament and hopefully this tournament will be completed within 2 weeks. All regular franchises would to participate into this new version of IPL.
WHY THE USA?
Details of how a mini-IPL might work, or exactly where it might be played, remain sketchy.
But there is already proof that cricket in the US can draw crowds, with the ‘Cricket All-Stars’ series organised by Shane Warne and Sachin Tendulkar last year seeing tens of thousands of fans - mostly expats from the subcontinent - attend matches at iconic baseball stadiums in New York, Los Angeles and Houston.
The US remains a lucrative but untapped market for cricket, so taking a high-octane version of the game like the IPL to North America seems like a wise approach.
